The Diabetes Education Program at Hills & Dales General Hospital is accredited by the American Diabetes Association and the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Our comprehensive program can help you obtain the knowledge and skills you need to manage your diabetes on a daily basis. Our program covers:

What diabetes is and how to control it.
How to plan healthy, satisfying meals.
How to include physical activity in your daily life.
How medications and insulin work.
Monitoring blood sugar and using the results.
Recognizing high and low blood sugar and how to treat it.
Avoiding long-term complications.
Setting personal goals and how to achieve them.
Adjusting mentally and emotionally to living with diabetes.
Preconception care.
Are you new to using insulin or a blood sugar meter? We can help you learn these skills and feel confident about doing them on your own.

Will my insurance cover this program?

Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurers do cover the cost for diabetes education or a part of it. A doctor’s order is required to attend the program. Our educators can help you find out more.

Is this program only for people who have “serious” diabetes?

We believe that all diabetes is serious. Whether you are new to diabetes or have had the condition for a long time, we can help you learn what you need to know to get control of it. The choices you make today will greatly influence your future health and risk of getting complications from diabetes.
